4 year Old Identity Crisis??

Today Jack went to his sticky fingers art class. He made a scarecrow and a tree. If you look close you can see he signed it Ben 10. That's his name today. Sometimes he likes to be called Max, yesterday he introduced himself as Buddy, but today he's Ben 10.

I've been busy

Here are the projects that have kept me busy the last couple of days. I am going to the farmers market again on Saturday and have been trying to sew up fabric that I have into something useful. Doug brought home some more fabric for me tonight from my free fabric scrap supplying friend, and I sewed up this little zipper pouch from this cute piece. Thank you Sarah!!
In other news we are having our house painted. I have to say it is a little weird to pay someone for a job that I usually could do. Here is a little preview of the color that it might be ( I'm still deciding) I might go a little darker. What do you think? And, mom, here are the little dishtowels in frames I was telling you about. Now do you remember painting them?? I've had them up in Luke's room since he was born, a little girly but I love looking at them so much that I couldn't keep them in storage any longer. Luke used to say good night to each of them before I laid him in bed. Now I'm going to bed!

Max's pulled teeth and Jack-o-lantern Quesadillas

I took Max to the dentist yesterday to get his front tooth pulled. It was starting to stick out straight and the permanent one was coming in behind it. He ended up getting it pulled and the one next to it as well. Max thinks the incisor is cool because it is so long. It wasn't quite ready to come out and the root was still on it. He also thinks the tooth fairy might give him $10 for the both because one has a really long root. She didn't come last night...she usually takes a few days to get to our house.
Luke and Jack had pumpkin and spider shaped quesadillas for lunch today. I thought it was funny how they both gave the same kind of look for the camera. They are just too cool for the photo shoot.

Our weekend

Here are some pictures from our weekend. We spent the day at the beach with a bunch of friends on Saturday. Doug and Greg dug a massive hole for all the kids to play in. It was close enough to the surf that it kept filling with water and becoming a little splash pool.

One of our friends brought his fishing gear and caught a bunch of little fish for bait. In the end he ended up dumping them all into the little splash pool and the kids went crazy catching them with their hands. It was a new experience for our kids who shy away from all forms of wildlife.
On the ride home Luke was dancing in the car. He is becoming so silly.
We closed out the weekend with making donuts tonight.
They turned out pretty and tasty.

And finally I finished my weekend with a little sewing project. Max and Mer wanted Halloween trick or treat bags like Jack's that he got from Aunt Lizzy last year. I took them to the fabric store yesterday and they each picked out two fabrics. I made one for each of them and 4 more for the farmer's market this weekend. Good Night!

Proud Mama

We have started to assign daily household chores for the kids for the last 2 weeks. ( I have to report that it is going wonderfully, they don't love it but they are doing it.) The each have 2 or three jobs to do everyday in addition to tidying their rooms and making their beds. I added a new element a couple of days ago that went over famously. I put up a list of things I needed to get to that I thought the kids could do or at least help with. I thought this might get me to accomplish them since most of them were ugh kind of chores. I told them that these were extra chores that they didn't have to do but if they did, they would earn a wintergreen lifesaver (like the kind you have in your office Gpa Val). They didn't really go for it at first but Max started working on the list when he was bored that afternoon. Then Jack joined in once he saw Max getting candy. Any way the list took about a day and a half to do but it all got done with absolutely no reminding from me. Max fixed the trash can, it's a pull out kind that became impossible to pull out. I showed him how to dake it apart but then he fixed it. He wanted to finish the Halloween decor and I told him I didn't know where to put our old little pumpkins and ghost this year. He thought of the idea to hang them on a string of lights. And he made it happen. Mer added the touch of the little pumpkins every where.
Looks like we're ready for Halloween. Mer chose to match the movies with the boxes. Look what I found when I went to check on her progress. It doesn't even look this good when I do the job.I wish I had a before picture. It was atrocious!! We have a problem with not putting things back when we are done with them in our family. I couldn't be more proud of my kids rising to the occasion. They are growing up, being helpful and resourceful. I couldn't ask for more.

In other news, Doug has been working a lot of overtime lately. He reported that he worked an extra 8 hours this week. Here's a picture of him getting some much needed skate time last night.
Luke and Jack joined him on scooters.
This was an awesome action shot of Jack taking a spill. It looked like it was going to be a bad one but he said "I'm not hurt, I'm tough"
I'm so proud to have helpful, resourceful, cute, tough kids.

Thrill of the Farmer's Market

I finished a cute bag today. I stumbled across this bag on Pink and Polka Dot, and thought I just had to make something similar for the next Farmer's market. I couldn't find the right color burlap at Joann and instead of a monogram I made the straps come down. It's not quite as cute as the inspiration bag, but I love how it turned out. I think I should be sewing for my family or my home but I'm stuck on the thrill of the Farmer's market and just have bags on the brain. My home did get a little love from the last craft show. I used some of my earnings to buy these cute Halloween blocks from Stephanie that night. Happy Halloween!
