What have we been doing since Max's baptism?? Well, Max finished his massive lego set. This summer could be deemed "The Summer of Lego". The kids have played Lego almost every single day. Max hasn't lost his love for rocket ships. When he's not building them out of lego he still loves pillows and chairs as a frequent medium for them. Here's one he built today.
Mer and Jack and Luke teamed up and built one too, but lost interest when Max kept shooting imaginary holes in their ship.
Mer has been wanting a pet fish and on Saturday we let her go and buy some, with the understanding that it will her complete responsibility. This seemed like a fun adventure, after all we had all the supplies from our days of trying to raise tadpoles. She bought three, and Max jumping on board bought 2, Jack bought 1.
We came home and filled up the tanks, one in Mer's room and one in Max's.
Alas, one by one they started dying off starting on Sunday evening. Mer was okay with the first death but when her second one died Monday evening, she was heartbroken, and felt like she was a murderer. Tuesday came and all were dead but one. This little guy...Max's "Speeder" He was chosen because he has a cool black stripe down his back.
Tuesday was spent purchasing a filter system and setting it up on the tank in Mer's room. With that and a lesson to not feed the fish too much, we are hoping we can keep this little one alive for a few more days. So far so good. The plan is to go get another one if we can keep him alive for 2 weeks. Wish us luck!
Oh, I almost forgot to add this picture of this luscious S'mores Ice Cream Cake that Doug made on Sunday. He found the recipe in his gourmet cookbook. He was supposed to make homemade ice cream for it, but in the interest of time we added dark and milk chocolate shavings to Breyers Natural Vanilla.
The real recipe is here but I'll just tell you the layers of it. From the bottom up, layered in a springform pan...
Layer 1. Graham cracker crust
Layer 2. Vanilla ice cream with dark & milk chocolate shavings, Layer 3. Mini marshmallows mixed with marshmallow fluff
Layer 4. Mini marshmallows broiled just before serving.
It was soooo good. You know you want to try it!!

I loved and wanted to have fish too. When I did I felt like I was a "murder" too. Until I found Beta fish, you can only have one per tank but they have tons of different colored ones you can choose from. Very lo maintaince they don't need filter. You can buy a real Lilly house plant for the tank or bowl it looks pretty and the fish loves it. Buy beta pelts and ur set they last for a long time I had one for at least 2 years. Anyway hope this helps.
go with beta fish~ you dont even need the oxygen bubbles for them that probably what you are missing
tell mer we are sad to hear about her fish deaths!
i have to catch up here. i have been out of the blog loop.
have a great school year!!!
