Braces and Talent

This week Max got braces on his 2 front teeth. It is an effort to bring them together so that there is room for his incisors to descend. The baby ones fell out months ago and the permanent ones are stuck up on the roots of the others. As usual, Max was a champ at the dentist. He did not flinch at all when he got his shot or when he had his skin cut. His teeth were pulled together by the next morning. He will wear the braces for about six months.

Luke has learned to turn the water on by himself and wash his hands with soap. He does this repeatedly until we pull him away and then he throws a big crying fit. He also likes to use his toothbrush to get water from the sink.

This past week Meredith performed in her school talent show. She and 3 of her friends sang the song Fireflies by Owl City. They practiced singing on their own and came up with their own choreography. Enjoy the video.

Birthday Boy

Yesterday Luke turned 2!! We had a busy, fun filled day. After a morning Baseball practice for Jack we went to tour Doug's work facility. It was the first time in 2o years that Harris let workers bring their family members in to see where they work. We got to see Doug's office and the different laser labs he works in. Everyone got to wear protective glasses while he turned on a laser and burned a piece of paper with it. He also showed us how to splice an optical fiber together. Max thought that was the coolest thing. After the tour we went to McDonald's for a Birthday lunch out.All day, Luke tried his hardest to show everyone how old he was with his fingers.
After lunch we stopped by Target to let him pick out his final birthday present which meant he had to try out a lot of toys. He always goes for anything with buttons, sounds and lights.

Of course the big kids wanted to try out all the toys as well.

We ended up getting him a pull along Helicopter that sings, and lights up, and carries balls inside. Just his style. We came home and put Luke down for a nap while we got ready for the rest of the celebration. I finished frosting the cake......and Doug and the kids filled the space under the fort with sand and decorated it with balloons.
When he woke up, we showed him his cake....

...and he found the Elmo riding on it.

He opened his presents...
...And then we took him to find his new sand box. He was more excited about the hanging balloons than the sand, I think. We came in, had a little dinner, and moved on to Cake and ice cream.
Here he is, ready for bed, in his new Elmo pj's looking at his new Elmo puppet book, thank you Grandma & Grandpa Markos! A great end to a great day.

Happy Birthday Luke! We love you.

Valentine Poems 2010

On Valentine's day we have a little tradition of exchanging Valentines at our own little family party. This year Doug carried on his own tradition of writing a little poem to go with each gift. I just had to record these. Most of them have some sort of inside joke to them. Each of the kid's poems were stuck to a heart box full of chocolates. So here they are...enjoy!

Meredith, How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways

I love to hear your singing voice
I love your stories, when they are concise

I love it when you lend a hand
And help your brothers play Rock Band.

Happy Valentines Day!
Love Dad.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Maxwell, How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.

I love to hear you play the drum,
in the Band Shi Fu you're top gun.

Your speech is quick and slurred,
You know the joke that involves mustard.

Like a blade your mind is sharp.
I love to hear you play with flarp.

Happy Valentines Day!
Love Dad.

Jack, How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.

I love to hear your lips say to me,
that we are very best buddies!

I love to see you laugh and play
I love it when you wink my way.

Happy Valentines Day!
Love Dad.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Lu-Lu, How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.
I love my little boy baby
I love it when you smile at me

I wish I could understand the words you say
I listen to them every day.

From your lips there is a phrase
that melts my heart and warms me like the sun's rays
"Da-da, Da-da,"
Please, please, please
Say this to me everyday.

Happy Valentines Day!
Love Dad.

-------------------------------------------
(Mine was stuck to a much needed new running watch)

Ma-Ma, How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.

I love to see you sew and sell.
I love you when your legs do swell.

I love to see you smile and laugh.
You deserve a bubble bath.

I love to see you when you run
In my heart you're number one.

Be my Valentine.
Love Doug

The Flarp Story

While Doug has been known for sometimes embarrassing the kids, he also has moments when he is known as the coolest dad in the world. Like last weekend when he drove to 3 different Walmarts in 2 days on a quest to find FLARP. What is Flarp?? It is basically a bottle of goo that when pulled in and out of it's container makes the most perfect bathroom noises that send everyone, including Luke, into laughing fits of delight. Of course dad is king when he is encouraging any kind of bathroom humor. The kids (and Dad) played with it all weekend long. Max even got in trouble sneaking it into church. Luckily we intercepted it before he opened it up during Sacrament meeting. In Primary Jack raised his hand in the middle of singing time to tell everyone that his Dad "bought him Flarp yesterday." It might not have been too big of an interruption but the teacher couldn't quite understand him and it had to be repeated over and over and finally explained by me. Nice! Luke couldn't get enough of it and would scream his head off when we tried to take it away from him. Actually his favorite thing to do with it was put it on his head and then try to pull it out of his hair. Yeah, that was fun. So that's the promised Flarp story. By now it has lost it's luster as all $1 items do and this weekend we moved on to another favorite celebration here...VALENTINE'S DAY!

Our week

Here I am again posting a ton of pictures at once. We've been busy as usual. I sold purses in another farmer's market on Saturday and got a new calling at church, Primary president. I probably will be sewing and blogging less for a while. Jack and Max started Baseball this week. Jack is the youngest on his t-ball team. He has a bunch of friends on his team, and is bugging Jake in this shot. No pictures of Max's first practice...it got rained out after the first 15 minutes. Sudden torrents of rain drove us off the field and we were drenched and Mer and Jack were crying by the time we got to the car.

Jack met his friend Lily at the zoo one day. When we left he informed me that he only had "a little" fun because "only got to see 2 animals" Later on I asked what he liked the best at the zoo today he dismally, "Just the otter's. Just!!"

It looked like he was having fun making sand angels.

Other than those things it's been business as usual. Here are a few pictures to prove that the mischief lives on
Here's Luke's favorite place to sit. He likes to be outside and sit at the top of the slide,

We've been making Valentines
And here's the Flarp... The Flarp story will be for another post. I'll let your imaginations run wild because I have to go get the kids to school now.

Jack's Birds

Jack finished making his birds. Grandma Newson gave him a little kit for Christmas and yesterday we finished them up. He's excited for them to dry so he can play with them and put them on a tree branch. Thank you Grandma!!
