An Unfortunate Turn of Events
LAST TADPOLE UPDATE: I'm sad to have to report this ... yesterday we had 2 frogs with no tails to let go. It had been chilly the night before and I didn't want to just let them go into the cold when they had lived their whole lives in a warm house. So I put the bowl outside in the back porch mid-day to let them be in outside temperature as the night fell. Last night I put the bowl just outside the porch in the back yard and took the net off to let the frogs jump out at their leisure. (I've also been told you're supposed to do this and they'll jump out when they are ready). This morning Jack and I went to check on the tadpoles and we found that both frogs had jumped out and were dead on the ground just outside the bowl and were being eaten by ants... and the bowl was empty. Something had fished all of the eight or so remaining tadpoles out of the bowl in the middle of the night I guess. I wish had had a video on it cause I can't imagine what would/could have done it. The kids were sad of course but really just as astonished as I was that it happened. So our tadpole rearing has come to an end. Too bad it had to be a sad one. Not sure we will be trying that again.

OH NO!!!!! not the frogs!!!!
that is sad- maybe a cat???
or soem sort of bird- but they would have eaten it- or maybe it was too cold for them to hop away- they are cold blooded--- thats crazy!
we got the letter from Max!!!! They loved it!!! we will write back soon!!
Kendall wants me to say she really loves Mers gift to her - its in her room. we will take a picture of where it is and post it!!!!!
have a great night!
Hey Sarah! I had no idea you had a blog! it is too cute! Thanks again so much for getting recipes together for people for Heathers shower. And ALL of those pants you gave me fit perfect! I am so excited! Last pregnancy I went w/out any jeans forever! Now I have some. :)
BTW-every year, after a good rain in the summer, our ditch in front gets full of water. The frogs lay their eggs in there and we get a million tadpoles! It was really fun this year for Rylan to see the tadpoles and then watch them as they turned to frogs, which of course leads to a million frogs! Then the frogs stick around for months! They hang out all over outside and Rylan would sit at the window and just watch them outside! I especially love the ones that decide to hang out on our front door handle! :)
Oh that is tragic for a little kid -especially being eaten by ants!
OK, so I have to admit, I hadn't read the whole post when I posted my comment about all of our frogs. I feel terrible now saying how great our frog season is now knowing you lost yours! :( I'm so sorry and feel like a jerk! But, I must say, you shoulsn't give up on the frogs. We have actually had a few, probably about 10 this year, make it inside our house. We try to catch them and bring them back outside but we have had a few tragities that we didn't find until it was too late. I guess that is part of the "learning" about animals. Luckily Rylan was too young to really understand though.
Ugh! I'm sorry but the ONE thing in this world that creeps me out and makes me physically ill are those nasty F**gs! I will have a breakdown if any EVER make it inside my house! Oh the horror! ;)
